One page. One ask. One big impact.

ABOUT BRAIN NET

Brain injury affects 1 in 12 Australians, yet many people never see its impact. Because brain injury is often an invisible disability, challenges with memory, concentration, fatigue and emotions can be misunderstood or mistaken for something else.

Brain Net Inc. was founded by people with lived experience of acquired brain injury who know first-hand that understanding and empathy can change recovery outcomes.

This pilot program has been created to help students better understand the everyday realities of living with brain injury, build empathy and encourage supportive, inclusive communities. The program will be trialled in 70 Queensland schools, with the potential to expand based on outcomes.

WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?

Brain Net's Sock It 2 Brain Injury Schools Challenge is a single lesson activity for Year 7 students.

Students place a sock over their dominant hand for one full lesson and carry on as normal.

They feel, just for an hour, what it is like when an ability is suddenly taken away, much like brain injury.

Then they reflect. And then they design.

1 Sock. 1 Lesson. 1 Insight.

WHAT DOES YOUR SCHOOL NEED TO DO?

Three things only.

  1. Register your school at brainnet.org.au/sockit2braininjuryschoolschallenge

  2. Ask students to bring one colourful sock from home

  3. Deliver the challenge using Brain Net's ready-made lesson guide

That is it. Everything else is provided free.

WHAT DOES YOUR SCHOOL GET?

Every school that participates receives:

  • 10 pairs of socks in the winning design sent directly to your P&C to raise funds for brain injury, increase awareness or support someone in your community recovering from brain injury.

  • Brain Net Schools Partner badge for your newsletter and website

  • Brain Net's What Schools Taught Us insight summary shared back to your school

  • First invitation to what happens after the pilot review

WHY THIS MATTERS

Around 1 in 12 Australians are impacted by brain injury.

Brain injury is often invisible. Someone can look completely fine while struggling with memory, communication, fatigue, and everyday tasks every single day.

One lesson can change how a young person sees that, for the rest of their life.
